My Personal Childhood Web
I am an only child. Both sets of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins lived out of state. My web was quite small - my mom and dad. However, my web was very loving and nurturing. I grew up in the 60's and 70's. Most moms did not work outside the home and my mom was no exception. She always had time to listen. We spent a lot of time together. Both of my parents were my biggest encouragers and so interested in my educational experience, my friends, and extra curricular activities. My dad was very involved in helping me with homework and driving me places (my mom didn't drive). My mom taught me how to cook and taught me how to sew by hand and how to embroider. My parents definitely taught me right from wrong and instilled in me the values that I honor to this day. They really valued education and were so proud when I graduated with my bachelor's degree (something neither had the opportunity to do). I know they would be so pleased that I am finally pursuing my Master's degree. My parents have both passed away and I miss them so very much. They modeled for me how to treat others with respect and kindness and showed me unconditional love - life lessons I am so thankful for and strive to use in my daily interactions with family, friends, and the little ones in my care at preschool.

Loving the pictures, I can say seeing the results of growing up in the sixties and seventies have their advantages. Glad I was part of that great society the nurturing, teaching and love.....Nice job!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Brenda! Yes, I am thankful to have grown up in that era, too.
DeleteI too love your pictures! In addition, I am an only child. My mother and I are closer than two peas on a pod. My father was not in the picture, but his father was a big part of my childhood. I was so concerned when I was dating that I'd find someone like my father, nut thankfully my husband is the best of everyone and a terrific father to our daughter. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Christelle. I really liked how you posted pictures of your current web. Looks like a lot of joy and love in your web!
DeleteYour home sounds so much similar to mine - with dad working and mom at home. My mom too dont drive. So when my dad used to come home, even if it was from a hectic day of work he would be willing to take us out. There are more similarities, that I can relate with your home. Nice to know you Suzzane and I wish the best for you.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Deepa. It really does put a different dynamic in the home when mom doesn't drive, doesn't it!
DeleteI am looking forward to getting to know you and learning with you, Deepa.
Lovely pictures! A childhood web comes is all different sizes. Your parents provided a loving and supporting environment and I am sure they are proud of you. I look forward to reading more of your blog!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Angie. I am impressed with your creativity. I am anxious to follow your blog, too!
DeleteFirstly, sorry fr your loss. Loved the pictures. Sometimes it's the humble beginnings that teach us the most important life lessons. I'm pretty sure you valued the time spent sewing and embroidering with your mom. Those are the moments we get to spend time bonding with our families and lving them so much more. Today, technology occupies much of our time and miss those memorable opportunities.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Dale. You are right, I do value the time I spent with my parents. I think your right about technology. Kids today can miss those valuable personal interactions and relationships.
